General Manager Position OPEN

Terre Foods Cooperative Market, a startup cooperative located in Terre Haute, Indiana, is seeking a General Manager to join our team as we move towards the successful opening of our store. The co-op has been an ongoing effort since 2008. We currently have 642 member-owners, and we expect to be over 1,000 member-owners by our projected opening in third quarter 2014.
Our store will be a full-service grocery store with limited deli and cafe capabilities. Market analysis projects $3.1 million first year annual sales, with growth trends projected to annual sales of $5 million in four years from opening. We expect to operate a store of a minimum 6,000 square feet total (minimum 4,000 sq.ft. retail), with between 3-5 full-time department managers and a floor staff of 25-30 full- and part-time employees. Our co-op is directed by a seven member Board and employs policy governance for its leadership structure. An electronic copy of our current policy manual is available to all applicants upon request.
• Retail management experience
• Ability to evaluate and determine appropriate strategic changes
• Experience with operating, capital, and cash budgeting
• Supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating, compensating, firing
• Ability to be proactive and keep momentum going for growth and change
• Commitment to cooperative values and principles
• Management experience in a grocery store, natural foods store, or co-op
• Experience in grocery store or co-op
• Experience working within local food systems
• Experience working for or serving on a board of directors
• Experience supervising managers
• Experience in marketing and merchandising
